McIntosh Pro Line • Hoof Restore
As the saying goes "No Hoof - No Horse"
McIntosh Pro Line Hoof Restore will promote proper growth and a healthy hoof.
The Bulbs The bulb is continuous with the coronary band and is composed of soft rubbery horn. They are supported by the digital cushion. Strength and flexibility are essential to proper function and nutrition plays an important role for its optimum integrity.
The Digital Cushion The primary purpose of the cushion is to reduce concussion to the foot and acts like an elastic shock absorber. It also may work as a pump to force blood back up to the limbs as the horse walks. Without proper nutrition the horse’s bones will undergo excessive shock due to inadequate cushion composition.
Coronary Band The primary growth and nutritional source for the bulk of the hoof wall. It is normally soft and shiny and may be pink in color. Injuries to this structure and defective nutrition are serious and usually leave a permanent defect in the growth of the hoof wall.
Frog Part of the weight bearing structure of the foot, it is also important in aiding to force blood back up the limbs as the horse walks. It is quite soft and must maintain its flexibility to function properly. Improper nutrition can impede its important properties.
The Wall The hoof wall is approximately 25% water and is nonvascular in structure, and has no nerve supply. The wall is composed of keratinized epithelial cells that are solidly cemented with keratin. The ground surface of the hoof wall is divided into areas called the toe, quarters, and heel. The wall grows at approximately 1/4 inch per month, therefore, poor nutrition may take a long time to be corrected if it adversely affects the hoof wall.
White Line This is the junction of the wall and the sole. This is an easy area to look at and determine how well a horse is meeting its nutritional needs for proper hoof integrity. Any separation, abnormal appearance or imperfections can indicate the need for better care or better nutritional inputs.
The Sole Comprises the majority of the ground surface of the hoof and is approximately 33% water. The structure is similar to the wall but is designed to bear internal weight and not to bear weight from the ground surface. The sole should not bear weight, except for a strip about 1/4 inch wide, or less, inside of the white line. Improper levels of essential hoof nutrients quickly shows up in various negative ways in the sole.
